Project Number: 100
Category: Alternative Jet Fuel
This project will help understand and develop sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) supply chain options between the U.S. and Canada. This work will build on the regional supply chain studies being assessed in ASCENT project 001. Our overall goal is to identify potential supply chains that could benefit both the U.S. and Canada through increase SAF production and utilization while creating economic benefits on both sides of the border. We will investigate the likelihood of meeting federal, state/provincial, and airport specific targets for SAF use within the initial study region. The impact of policy on SAF production and use will also be studied.

Outcomes
Current U.S. supply chain analyses typically stop at our country’s borders. Considering assets of both the U.S. and Canada, with existing and potential trade considerations, will provide a more complete picture of potential SAF supply chains. Cooperative use of feedstock, production, and infrastructure on both sides of the border could accelerate an increase in SAF volume. The influence of policy is a topic that is not well understood but has been discussed as a major influence in these scenarios. Having data to clarify this topic will help policy makers in both countries.
